Tucson, Arizona, is a great city located in the middle of the desert, Whether you are looking for a warm place to retire, or a fun place for a winter vacation, this area may be perfect for you. Head out to Tucson for  a touch of the Wild West, unique eating experiences, and to enjoy the great outdoors all year around, but don miss the 8 amazing attractions.




Sonoran Dogs and Other Mexican Food

These famous bacon wrapped hot dogs with all the fixings are a favorite all over Arizona and parts of Mexico. You will find the best ones at El Guero Canelo, but do not miss the other amazing Mexican restaurants on the best 23 Mile of Mexican Food. This is a fun way Tucson has mapped out some of the most delicious food around. Come hungry!

Pinnacle Peak Steak House

Don’t worry if you’re not in the mood for something spicy. Pinnacle Peak serves some of the best steaks, sides, and drinks around It is located with trail Dust Town, a tourist attraction with western shoot out shows, and rides for the kids. Sound casual? You better dress the part! If your war a tie to this steakhouse, the will cut it off and hang it on the wall with thousands of others they’ve removed for breaking their fun no-tie policy. (There are cheap ties for sale at the gift shop right outside if you want to experience this fun ritual.)

Pima Air and Space Museum

Yes, there are great things to do in Tucson that aren’t food focused! This flight focused attraction is more than just a museum. It is huge with several hangars of airplanes from all different eras of flight, as well as hundreds of airplanes outside to see. There are interactive experiences that everyone will enjoy from small children on up. Even those who do not think they’re interested in aviation will have a good time getting so close to so many airplanes.

Plus, there is a space hangar with lots of interesting displays about outer space, The space area has a great section for kids! There are lots of buttons to push for the kids (and the young at heart)! And perhaps best of all, you can take a tour bus through the airplane “boneyard” runs by the US Military. Thousand of planes are lined up for miles and you can ride right through them with a guide explaining things along the way. Plan this in advance since a background check is required for access to the Air Force base.

Desert Museum

In some ways this museum is more like a zoo, with the raptor, hummingbird aviary, and lots of  other live animals. If you want to get up close and learn about desert creatures, this is the place for you.

The Cookie Cabin

With cookies that are literally as big as your face, this is a must for any visit to the Tucson area. They also serve delicious pizza, but as with most things, getting there is half the fund! The scenic drive up the Catalina mountain highway to Summerhaven where this little gem is nestled among shops and trees is a must-do in itself. From cactuses to pine trees, mountain and city vistas, and maybe even a bear or two, the one hour drive up the mountain is stunning the whole way
